My macbook died, shows blinking folder with a question mark?

While I was working on my Macbook doing some task, the screen froze completely. Nothing was working, no key or clicks. After waiting for some time, I switched it off from power button. Almost after an hour, I restarted it and it showed screen with blinking folder and question mark. I did it again and again but, all ended with same screen, during this I also observed some clicking sound. But I am not sure if it’s dead or what kind of failure is this? It’s now in the repair shop just willing to know will they be able to recover drive data or what can I do to get data back.
