How to delete all the files from the Mac hard drive completely and permanently?

I have to sell my Mac system, so I want to delete all my files from it. But my Mac hard drive contains lots of confidential files which I want to protect. Simple deleting and emptying the Mac is not enough that I know, as the information can easily be restored later by using different available software’s. So, I just want to know, is there any way using which I can completely and permanently delete all my files and documents from the Mac hard drive? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

scotttaylor 		You are absolutely right, it is true that deleting and emptying the Mac hard drive does not deletes all the files and folders of the system which can be very dangerous for you. So, in this situation I would like to prefer Disk Utility software which is the built-in utility of Mac OS X. This utility will effectively wipe your complete Mac hard drive data and make it re-usable again. But after performing the following task the data remains in the Mac hard drive and you are able to track the data i.e. you are able to restore the data from the Mac hard drive then use Wipe Mac software to wipe out all the data from the Mac hard drive. This software is equipped with very sophisticated scanning mechanism using which it wipes all the data from the Mac hard drive.
