How can I recover the windows password with the USB flash drive ?

I have forgotten my windows password and I don’t have the CD drive. Is it possible to recover the windows password with the USB flash drive? Any help would be appreciated?

emilydcosta 		In windows XP, 2000, NT when you type the password in the login windows, then the windows os converts the passwords in the password hash with the high level encryption schemes. These password hashes are saved in the SAM files. When you types password, windows will first compare your typed password with SAM file and then allow the access. So, to recover the password it is important to get the SAM files.

But the problem is that SAM file is locked all through the active windows session and without booting it can’t be accessed. So, boot your system from the other OS and copy the SAM file to the USB drive. But this will be in the encrypted format so in the plain text you can not see the passwords and to recover then you have to implement either Brute force attack or Dictionary which will take more time. The convenient option is to use window password recovery program which supports the USB flash drive recovery such as Kon-Boot, USB ophcrack.
